FAQs
How do I apply First Aid?
Rinse any dirt or debris from the wound. Once dry, mound First Aid ¼- to ½-inch thick over the injury and taper it toward the edges to help seal the wound and keep the clay in place. No need to rinse off dried clay before reapplying; simply mound more over the top.
Should I wrap the wound after applying First Aid ointment?
For best results, we recommend covering First Aid with gauze and a wrap to keep the clay hydrated and protect the wound. If wrapping isn’t feasible, simply reapply First Aid two to three times a day until the area heals.
What if my horse licks off First Aid?
First Aid is completely natural, so if your horse eats some, no worries! The ingredients are just purified water and bentonite clay, which is safe to consume in small amounts.
How long should First Aid be left on?
If you apply First Aid without wrapping, it will likely stay in place an hour or two before sloughing off. Reapply two to three times daily to encourage the healing process.
